English Course for Absolute Beginners With the Callan Method

Course overview

When you are a real beginner, you don’t even know where to start. It’s pointless to read grammar books because you don’t have enough vocabulary to apply what you have read. Moreover, it’s hard to teach yourself because you don’t know if you are doing a good job or not.

However, as experienced educators employing the Callan Method, we find beginners the easiest to teach because they do not have any pre-learned mistakes.

In this course, you will be learning the correct way to speak from the very start. You will learn how to speak the same way native speakers from English-speaking countries speak.

During the course, you are going to start speaking from the first minute of your lesson. At first, you only learn a few simple sentences using only a few words. With time, the sentences gradually become longer and more complicated, but everything evolves naturally.

Step-by-step, we build up your vocabulary and grammar, and it is all learned through conversation. Every question we ask focuses on a specific word or phrase. You spend the whole lesson speaking and we correct all your mistakes. Every single one!

The Method is simple and makes the lessons stick in your head. The teacher asks you questions and you reply. When you make mistakes, which you most definitely will, the teacher immediately corrects you. Since everything is repeated many times, after the second, third, or fourth go, you will just instinctively know how to pronounce the words.

The method follows the same way your parents corrected you when you made mistakes as a child. You won’t be embarrassed! Those who make mistakes learn. That is the only way to learn.

Main objectives 

The focus of this Erasmus Plus training course is to promote fluency to all members of an educational organisation through structured Callan Method English lessons and a variety of workshops.
Participants will be instructed entirely in English on proper pronunciation and sentence structure, and will use the power of repetition to achieve this smoothly. Participants will also be guided on creating professional documentation such as letters, memorandums and agendas.

The course will help the participants to:  

Daily Program

Day 1 – Introduction to the Callan Method
Introduction to the course, the school, and the week’s external activities;
Setting the framework: expectations, goals, rules and roles;
Basics of the Callan Method;
Callan Method English lesson;
City walking tour.

Day 2 – New Vocabulary and Deeper Understanding of the Callan Method
Callan Method English lesson;
Learning with ICT Tools – alphabet, numbers, clothes, body parts, family members;
Callan Method English lesson.

Day 3 – New Vocabulary and Grammar
Callan Method English lesson;
Learning by playing: place and time descriptions, personal pronouns;
New vocabulary – food;
Visit to the green market;
Callan Method English Lesson.

Day 4 – The Callan Method continued
Callan Method lesson;
Learning with ICT tools: affirmative, negations, descriptions, introduction and presentation;
Callan Method Lesson.

Day 5 – Revision Class and Final Examination
Callan Method lesson;
Callan Method full revision class;
Final examination;
Closing notes and discussion.

Day 6 – Course closure & cultural activities
Course evaluation: round-up of acquired competencies, feedback, and discussion;
Awarding of the course Certificate of Attendance;
Excursion and other external cultural activities.

Who is it for?
This Erasmus Plus training course is designed for any member of an educational organisation, be it trainers, school management, administration staff, marketing advisors, etc.

Language proficiency
This Erasmus Plus training course is best suited for those with at least a B1 level of knowledge. All of the exercises and materials will be presented in English.

We help people speak English confidently and free them of the fear of making mistakes. The Callan Method is a fast and dynamic method that consists of guided conversation with native speakers. Our students learn English actively, practising it during the lesson. The goal of the method is to improve your listening, understanding and speaking skills. The method focuses on spoken language, not traditional, high English.
Callan classes are fast-paced, dynamic and interactive! During a Callan Method lesson, students speak English the whole time, and the teachers are there to correct your mistakes! Repetition makes you more fluent and, most importantly, raises your confidence level and frees you from your fear of speaking.
